Michael B. Jordan Opens Up to David Letterman About His Future: ‘I Want Children’

Michael B. Jordan Reveals to David Letterman That He'd Like to Have Kids One Day

Michael B. Jordan has been spending much of his time behind the camera lately, but in a recent conversation with David Letterman, the actor revealed that he’s also contemplating what life might look like when the pace of work slows down—particularly when it comes to becoming a parent.

Jordan appeared on Season 6 of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which was filmed in London while the 38-year-old balanced both starring in and directing a fresh take on The Thomas Crown Affair. The conversation took place in a cozy London pub, where the two shared beers and played a few rounds of darts.

At one point, Jordan described his daily routine as fairly uneventful. “My life is boring,” he admitted to Letterman, noting that directing requires nearly constant focus and attention to detail.

Letterman, known for his dry wit, immediately countered, “You think it’s boring, you ought to follow me around.”

The talk then veered into the more ordinary aspects of Letterman’s life, including his marriage, his dogs, and the simple joys of grocery shopping for staples like celery. While Jordan acknowledged that his demanding schedule doesn’t leave much room for a social life, he emphasized that he isn’t closed off to what the future might hold. In fact, he’s giving serious thought to starting a family—but doing so carefully and deliberately.

“I want to start out small,” Jordan said. “I want a kid. I want children.” He laughed as he explained his strategy: “I figure I got to start off with like plants and dogs.”

For Jordan, the reasoning is straightforward and practical. “If I can take care of a plant, I can take care of the dog,” he said. “If the dog’s cool, then I have a shot.”

Though he has previously spoken openly about stepping back from dating to focus on his career, fatherhood is a chapter he sees in his future—even if it’s not happening immediately. Jordan described the idea of raising a family as both exciting and grounding, something that could bring balance to a life that has long revolved around work and creative projects.

The actor also hinted at the importance of being present for his future children, noting that he wants to approach parenting with the same dedication he brings to his professional work. “It’s about learning as you go and being consistent,” he shared. “I think that’s what matters most—being there and giving them attention and love.”

Jordan’s episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman premieres on Netflix as part of Season 6 on December 16, 2025, giving fans a closer look at the star not just as an actor and director, but as someone thoughtfully considering the next stage of his life.
