Iconic fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died aged 91

Legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91.

The Italian-born billionaire died today, September 4, "peacefully" and "surrounded by his loved ones."

The fashion house shared the news on Instagram with the following statement: "Milan, September 4, 2025 – With deep sorrow, the Armani group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani."

"Mr. Armani, as he was always called with great respect and admiration by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones."

The statement continued: "A relentless worker, he continued his dedication to the company, its collections, and the ongoing and ever-evolving projects until the very end."

It added: "Throughout the years, Giorgio Armani created a vision that expanded beyond fashion into all aspects of life, always ahead of his time with remarkable foresight and precision. His curiosity, attentiveness to the present, and focus on people were his driving forces. In this journey, he fostered an open dialogue with the public, becoming a beloved and respected figure for his ability to connect with everyone. Always mindful of the community’s needs, he was deeply committed to many causes, especially his beloved Milan." Iconic fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died aged 91

The statement concluded: "Giorgio Armani is a company with fifty years of history, built with passion and patience. Giorgio Armani has always made independence, thought, and action his hallmark. The company reflects this spirit, now and always."

It also noted that the family and employees of the business will continue to uphold the 91-year-old's values and respect.

Just last month, Armani spoke with The Financial Times about an upcoming exhibition he was planning to unveil at a Milanese museum dedicated to fashion at the end of this September.

"My greatest weakness is that I am in control of everything," he shared, despite missing the last three fashion shows in June and July due to illness.

Reflecting on the empire he built, he said: "If what I created 50 years ago is still appreciated by an audience that wasn’t even born at the time, this is the ultimate reward."

Armani launched his brand in 1975 with an initial investment of $10,000 to rent a small office.

He added: "My goal in the beginning was to assert my vision and to dress people. In some ways, that’s still the same goal today."

Today, the Giorgio Armani brand is valued at an estimated $10 billion.
