Lil Durk's Legal Team Alleges He's Spent 131 Days in Solitary Confinement Over Apple Watch
Lil Durk has reportedly remained in solitary confinement for more than four months, a situation that his legal team claims stems from an alleged incident involving an Apple Watch. According to newly filed court documents, the rapper has been isolated under conditions that his attorneys argue violate federal regulations and may even breach constitutional protections.
On Tuesday, January 6, Lil Durk’s attorneys submitted a motion requesting a formal status hearing, asserting that the artist has been detained “without process.” The filing suggests that his prolonged isolation could constitute a violation of the Eighth Amendment, which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.
Attorney Christy O’Connor stated in the motion that Lil Durk has spent 131 consecutive days in solitary confinement without access to commissary privileges. Additionally, he is reportedly limited to just one phone call per month and has been denied all in-person visits, further intensifying the restrictive nature of his confinement.
The legal team claims that the decision to place Lil Durk in solitary confinement followed an allegation that he was found in possession of an unauthorized Apple Watch. O’Connor argues that this accusation alone does not justify the length or severity of the punishment imposed.
“Lil Durk is confined to a very small jail cell, barely large enough to accommodate a single bed, a toilet, and a sink,” O’Connor explained. She emphasized that the harmful psychological consequences of extended solitary confinement are well-documented, noting that such conditions can cause lasting damage to an inmate’s mental health.
Adding to the controversy, Lil Durk’s attorneys allege that the Bureau of Prisons and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center have provided inconsistent explanations for the prolonged isolation. Initially, a government attorney reportedly stated that the confinement had nothing to do with the rapper’s celebrity status. However, months later, the warden allegedly told the defense that Lil Durk posed a security risk due to the high-profile nature of his case and possible rule violations.
To challenge the confinement, the defense cited extensive research outlining the psychological toll of long-term isolation, including symptoms such as anxiety, depression, emotional instability, and social withdrawal. They argue that these risks are particularly concerning given the length of time Lil Durk has already spent alone.
The controversy surrounding Lil Durk’s detention comes amid ongoing complications in his murder-for-hire case. In October, federal prosecutors filed a motion requesting an anonymous jury, citing concerns for their safety. They pointed to the rapper’s alleged influence, financial resources, and leadership role within the Only The Family (OTF) label as potential threats.
More recently, both prosecutors and co-defendants have jointly requested a trial delay. If approved, the motion would push the start date from January 20 to May 4, extending an already lengthy legal process that continues to face scrutiny from both the defense and the public.
