This method works quickly because the warm temperature encourages clams to open their shells and release sand. However, it is essential to control the water temperature carefully. If the water is too hot, the clams may open completely, become partially cooked, and lose their natural sweetness and texture.

The Fastest Way to Clean Clams by Shaking

Place the clams in a basin and add enough water to cover them. Add a small amount of salt. Cover the basin with another container of similar size, hold both firmly, and shake vigorously for about one minute. Repeat this process several times.
