Prince William’s most open interview yet with Eugene Levy as he shares Kate Middleton cancer update
An Intimate Look into Prince William’s Private Life and Family Struggles
Prince William has granted an unusually candid view into his life at home with his wife, Kate Middleton, in a forthcoming episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler.
Accompanied by actor Eugene Levy, William opened up in remarkable detail about both his professional duties and his personal challenges. During the conversation, he offered fresh insight into Princess Kate’s cancer recovery and how his family navigated one of the toughest periods they’ve ever faced.
Behind the Scenes at Windsor
In the episode, William personally guided Levy on a tour of Windsor Castle, giving the actor access few are afforded. As they walked through the royal grounds, William was more than just a host — he became a storyteller, sharing facets of his life rarely seen by the public. In one lighter moment, when asked by Levy what he does at home, William joked: “Sleep! When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”
Their conversation later moved to a cozy pub, where William disclosed that 2024 was the hardest year he’s ever had, as both his wife and his father were diagnosed with cancer. He described that period as emotionally intense, saying, “Life is sent to test us … being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
Health Updates: Kate and Charles
William reassured Levy that Kate’s recovery is progressing well. He said that while the challenges were real, “everything is good,” and that she is now in remission. The public record aligns: Kate was diagnosed in March 2024 following abdominal surgery. She underwent preventive chemotherapy, completed treatment in September 2024, and announced remission in January 2025. As part of her recovery, she has since gradually resumed public duties.
King Charles’ diagnosis, revealed in February 2024, followed treatment for an enlarged prostate; the palace confirmed a separate cancer issue was discovered during that procedure. While he has returned to public engagement, he continues under medical supervision.
William reflected on how his family had long enjoyed relatively strong health, noting that he and Kate were caught off guard by their illnesses. He spoke of his grandparents’ long lives as a reminder of how sudden disease can disrupt all assumptions of security. “When you suddenly realise … the metaphorical rug … can be pulled from under your feet quite quick,” he said.
The Impact on Their Children
William also opened up about how their three children—Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7)—have coped during this turbulent time. He described the family as being “very open,” emphasizing that they talk about their concerns and feelings. “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need,” he said.
He admitted that children adapt in their own ways, and the knock-on effects of traumatic events are unpredictable. But he stressed that one constant was being present for one another and reassuring the children that “everything is okay.”
Despite the circumstances, he expressed pride in how his children have “managed brilliantly.” He also praised both Kate and his father for how they navigated that period.
Grooming a Future King — and Prioritizing Family
When Levy asked how he feels about George one day ascending to the throne, William acknowledged the magnitude of the question. He affirmed that he wants George to feel pride in the monarchy and in the work they do. “I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do … a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better,” he said.
However, William insisted that his first priority is his family—not his own future reign. He spoke powerfully about the need to balance royal obligations with creating a stable, nurturing home. “If you don’t start the children off now with a happy, healthy, stable home … you’re setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall.”
He also reaffirmed a vow to protect his family from the type of media intrusion that heavily scrutinized his parents. He recalled how in the 1990s press coverage was “insatiable,” and warned that allowing such invasions to creep in can damage a family irreparably. “I vowed that would never happen to my family,” he said.
Home Life and Boundaries
William shared some lighter domestic details that nevertheless speak volumes about his parenting approach. He confirmed that the family always sits down to dinner together, encouraging conversation and connection. Importantly, he said none of their children have phones, a strict rule intended to shield them from the pressures of exposure.
He also described the children’s favorite activities. Louis is passionate about trampolining (joined by Charlotte). Charlotte also does netball and ballet, while George enjoys football and hockey. The couple encourages outdoor play and sports. He admitted that encouraging musical pursuits has been more challenging, but they are trying.
Memories and the Weight of Legacy
At Windsor — where Queen Elizabeth II is buried — William grew emotional talking about his grandparents. He said Windsor is deeply connected to Queen Elizabeth, who adored the castle and surrounded it with her presence. He acknowledged missing his grandmother and grandfather, and spoke of how his relationship with them deepened with age: “As they got older and I got older it got warmer and warmer.”
Looking Ahead
The Reluctant Traveler episode featuring Prince William is scheduled to premiere on October 3, 2025, streaming on Apple TV+. In this episode, viewers will see more intimate moments, from informal conversations in pubs to life inside royal walls.
In making this appearance, William appears to be shaping a public narrative around resilience, transparency, and the sanctity of private life. At a time when his family has endured deeply personal trials, these revelations may mark a turning point — offering both reassurance and a deeper understanding of the man who will one day wear the crown.
